What is bail?
Bail is the money that a defendant uses to be released from custody before a trial begins. It acts as a deposit to ensure that the defendant will show up to court. If the court appearance is skipped, the court can seize the bail.
Do I have to get a bail bond? Can I pay the bail with cash?
You can pay the bail with your own cash, but you would not be able to use that money until the legal process has been completed. Bail bonds would allow you to have more financial flexibility.
What is a bail bond?
The bail bond allows someone to pay only a small amount of the bail, which is usually 10%. The bail bond agency would then send the rest of the amount to the court with the assurance that the defendant will return for trial. If the defendant fails to appear, a bail bonding agency can use resources (bounty hunter) to find the defendant and bring him/her in front of the court so as not to lose the money it provided for bail.
What is a co-signer?
